The initial project for the Bodegas Tierras de Orgaz was created with the necessary tranquillity required by all of life’s worthwhile things. In the year 2000, motivated by a profound love of the terroir, Carlos Galdón commissioned 32 hectares of vines to be planted in the heart of the Montes de Toledo. Pablo Rodríguez Pinilla was put in charge of planning a plantation that was to be innovative in this area.
Reaching altitudes of over 800 metres with slopes of up to 25 per cent, the vines penetrate the soil through a thick layer of gravel to reach a limestone soil. This produces a fruit with intense flavours and unique aromas. Such particular characteristics make fresh vibrant wines that are perfect for maturation.
A fruit with intensity of flavors and the unique aromas.”
But none of this would have been possible without the courage to wait seven long years between the start of the plantation and the founding of the winery. The time was spent nurturing the vines until finally in 2007 the right balance and maturity were achieved. A traditional 1918 bodega or winery situated close to the vines set the project in motion.
The winemaker Jose Carlos Serrano has been able to combine the traditions of the old bodega with new technologies to produce excellent results.
It is today an honour and source of pride for all the team at Bodegas Tierras de Orgaz to be able to offer two types of wine. Mernat, with its unusual blend of five varieties of fruity aromas, is a fresh and elegant wine, of perfect acidity with light touches of oak balancing out the whole. While being modern, it also retains an element of tradition. The Bucamel, on the other hand, perpetuates the long tradition of the bodega. It is a typical Tempranillo from La Mancha with a personal touch created by ageing in wood for16 months and will delight anyone looking for strength and elegance; in short, a thoroughbred tempered by calm.
